Questions
In the KJ in VT chapter “The Carry,” Ken mentions a photo of Ted Jefferson standing on The Carry in North Hero, Vermont. Does anyone have this photo?
Tasks (for myself and others)
Paintings: If anyone has any of Ken Jefferson’s paintings, I would love to document them all, or as many as possible. Please take a (as high quality as you can) photo and use the Dropbox link at the top of this page to send it to me.
Mysteries
Family Tree Mystery #1: There are two Jefferson family members that I can find no real records of after 1965. Twins Barbara Lynn and Judith Estelle (“Judy”) Jefferson, born about 1947. They are Ken Jefferson’s first cousins (making them my mom’s first cousins 1x removed and my first cousins 2x removed). Barbara and Judy are daughters of Thomas “Tom” Jefferson (Thomas was uncle to Ken and brother to Ted Jefferson and George Summerson Jefferson).
In Tom Jefferson’s obituary in 1980 his daughters are mentioned. Judy listed as Judith Gibson and living in Libya, and Barbara listed as Barbara Jefferson and living in Taiwan. Their mother Alice Estelle Withers Jefferson died in 1987, and I cannot find an obituary for her. They are not mentioned in their brother James Walter “Jeff” Jefferson’s obituary in 2019. As far as I can tell, their brother Thomas Hutton Jefferson Jr. is still alive, and he may be my best bet for further information. But if anyone I already know is versed in Jefferson history and genealogy and can shed any light, it would be appreciated. (I may get some help automatically in 2032 when the 1960 U.S. Census data becomes publicly available, but I don’t want to wait that long).
Mystery #2: The “Old Jefferson Place” / “Windway” Farm. I know it was on Cox Brook Road in Northfield, Vermont. I’m just having trouble identifying it on Google Earth. If anybody knows the actual address, I’d love to know.
Discovery #1: Relationship to Joshua Vita Montefiore. He’s where Paul Montefiore Cleveland’s middle name came from. And he was also the first Jewish lawyer to have a lw book published in the United States.
Discovery #2: I’m a Mayflower descendant. Stephen Hopkins and his daughter Constance Hopkins were Mayflower passengers. Constance’s daughter was Mary Snow, her son was Elisha Pain, his son was Rev. Solomon Paine, his daughter was Ruth Paine, her son was Elisha Cleveland, his son was John Downer Cleveland, his son was White Abel Cleveland, his son was John Wallace Cleveland, and his son was my great-grandfather Paul Montefiore Cleveland.
